The Western Isles are home to the Red deer population where they live in their natural habitat in the wild rugged hills,forests, mountains and woodland, venturing onto the lower ground in the winter.

Red Deer- Hebrides Wildlife Sightings
Throughout the year the deer will forage in different areas. In summer they move to high ground, on the Harris and Lewis hills and mountains to avoid midges and other biting flies, and in winter they frequent lower lying areas, where more food is available, and also to gain shelter from the cold
