Stornoway is a lovely peaceful town. It is the capital of The Isle of Lewis and the third largest town in the Scottish Highlands. It is an important port and indeed an administration centre for the Outer Hebrides. Archaeological pottery finds that date back over 5000 years and the important finding of the Lewis chessmen reveal an insight into its history. Today the harbour hosts a fishing fleet, somewhat smaller than in its heyday, a small marina and moorings for leisure boats and yachts, a small shipyard and slipway.
