Harris, from the old Norse meaning 'high land' is often described as the 'high heart of the Hebrides'. The Isle of Harris has a wide range of landscapes, all of which have their own charm and interest. The isle of harris has an incredible diversity in its landscape. The East coast of The Isle of Harris is dramatic, a rocky landscape with the west coast is perhaps as breathtakingly beautiful with miles of golden sandy beaches and fertile machair soil with stunning mountainous backdrops. Mountains, lochs, moorland, rocks, golden beaches and of course the Harris Hills which are formed on the oldest rock in the world
