Known as Jellies
Jellyfish, also know as jellies or sea jellies. Jellyfish are found in every ocean - from the surface to the deep sea - invertebrates that live in the sea. On the Isle of Harris and The isle of Lewis - you can see many different types of jellyfish

200 Species - 2000 Different Types - 70 sting
There are 200 species of jellyfish known in the world and 70 of these are known to sting .There are actually about 2000 different types of jellyfish belonging to the 200 species.

Feed on Small Animals or Plankton
Many of the jellyfish feed on small animals that they catch in their tentacles. Others are known to feed by just filtering out minute animals and plants such as Plankton

Gelatinous Bell - Tentacles
Jellyfish may have a gelatinous bell or umbrella shaped body, with tentacles dangling underneath. They are radically symmetrical and has no left or right side.

No brain - A Network of Nerves
Instead of a brain, the jellyfish has a network of nerves, which have receptors capable of detecting light, odour and other stimuli. Based on this, the jellyfish is able to co-ordinate appropriate responses.

Smallest and Largest
There are many types of jellyfish. The smallest jellyfish are just a few inches across. One of the largest jellyfish is the lion's mane (Cyanea capillata), The Arctic Lion's mane jellyfish is one of the longest known animals, the largest recorded specimen had a bell (body) with a diameter of 2.3 m (7 feet 6 inches) and the tentacles reached 36.5 m (120 feet).

Some Jellyfish Glow in The Dark
Some jellyfish glow in the dark. Some of the most deadly jellies include the box jelly (Genus Carybdea) and the tiny, two-cm-across Irukandji jelly (Carukia barnesi); the venomous sting of these jellyfish can kill a person.

Many animals eat jellyfish, including sea turtles and some fish (including the sun fish)

Delicacy in some Countries
In countries like Japan, Korea and China, it is considered a delicacy to eat Jellyfish.

Oldest Creatures in The World
The jellyfish is one of the oldest living creatures in the world. Jellyfish have existed on the face of this planet for over 650 million years. They have existed since before the dinosaurs and have survived long after the dinosaurs and million other species have gone extinct.
