Isle of Lewis - Western Isles Photos - Beaches - Bosta
Bosta beach - a small picturesque beach where sheep can be seen grazing on the moorland around the beach. In the summer the moors are covered with a machair - or carpet of wildflowers. This beach has got to be one of the best beaches in The Western Isles. Added bonuses are a really interesting Replica Iron Age House which has been created and is in the summer open for tourists to see inside. In 1992 a severe storm at Bosta revealed a great historic "find", traces of an ancient settlement. When futher investigated it was a late Iron Age (400-800AD) complex of houses linked by underground tunnels. This mankes Bosta a really important beach.
